Things going in, things coming out. A mess in the middle.

Word O Mouth

Whilst working on some typography the other day, I realised that my shocking abilities to recall more than just Helvetica and Comic Sans might be something to do with the fact I still love nothing more than writing words with a pencil rather than selecting them from a pull down font menu...

Day Of The Dead

Last week I was asked to work up some Day Of The Dead characters for a well known restaurant chain! They need a bit of work, mostly in the teeth department, but clearly, I built these from one kit of bones so they can be moved into various positions...

The Needles Are Your Friends

Having needles stuck into you isn't as bad as it sounds. Last week, I discovered my new favourite pastime... acupuncture!

IF : Prehistoric

This weeks Illustration Friday is Prehistoric! Thought I'd rip my own work off with 'Meat Lovers', clearly stolen from my 'In My Mind' project...

Kleenex Colour Me In

Doodles from my pencil feature on some limited edition 'Colour Me In' Kleenex tissue packs in Oz currently...

Not the easiest assignment I've ever undertaken - these had to work in simple black line, with the client requesting 'more and more' detail. The timeline was ridiculous too!

There are 4 packs in total, each featuring top and side panels loaded with Australian icons from the outback, the sea, the beach and the sports arena. Kleenex are running a competition currently for the 'best colourer-inner'...

IF: Time

This weeks Illustration Friday is Time. I'm finally getting back into the swing of illustration after a relocation from London to Melbourne... whilst waiting for the visa clearance, I spent many an hour looking at my watch like this, waiting, wondering if the bus would ever arrive. Of course, it always does - eventually.

Design Industry Voices 2013 report infographic

I've just completed my latest illustration commission - an infographic for Design Industry Voices, an annually prepared report about the state of the UK design industry. Check their website out here. It's mostly hand drawn, with type and colour added digitally.

Mechanical Failure

This month marks the final poster in a series of 12 throughout the year that I've produced for Facelift. It's entitled 'Mechanical Failure' and talks to the importance of checking your machine before and after use.

Chop Chop!

November's Facelift poster is about hand safety. Mind those fingers!

Hello Melbourne

I've moved to Melbourne, Australia!

Having returned to Europe 18 months ago after 5 years of living in Sydney, the thought of moving back to Australia was both thrilling and horrifying. So much fun, yet so much stress, what with visas and the need to pack everything up in small boxes again, and send them on their way. And of course, the huge financial expense - no matter how many times I've done it, it never ever gets any cheaper.

But the decision was made, and flights along with shipping agents were booked and we left the UK in August.

I now call Melbourne home - and wow, what a super cool place it is!

A city awash with graffiti and super trendy street art, I find myself wandering side streets with a camera day and night, and seem very content to waste away the hours simply sitting in cafés, sipping fine coffee and doodling the local wildlife.

Sky Fall!

This months Facelift poster warns of the dangers of working on fragile roofing.

The client asked for more copy and less emphasis on a dominant headline this month, meaning the imagery had to work harder. It's dramatic visual is a stark reminder of where you might end up if working on flat roofs.

The full range of the past 7 months can be seen here:
